“Don’t plug the damn thing in!” Riley screamed as he jumped out of the contraption nearly fumbling the instruction manual, and, truth be told, almost soiling his uniform.
Right now he missed Old Sparky, so easy to use and plenty of life left in him.
“Oh, sorry Boss” was all that his very own Barney Fife could say as he stood there daydreaming with the cord still too close to the juice for Riley’s liking. “Put that down. We aren’t there yet!”. “Once we’re ready to practice, I’ll let you know”.
“Boss, will I get to say ‘Dead man walking’?”
I thought of the electric chair angle after I posted my own. I like this riff on Stephen King.

It was the first thing that hit me and whenever I think about electric chairs- not that often thankfully- I think of the Green Mile. I enjoyed your take on the prompt. Very clever and unique.

Great thoughts. I actually did not think of “the chair”. Nicely done.

When I read yours the first thing I thought of was The Green Mile. I loved that movie. I also loved your story. 🙂

I sense some impending doom, letting this Barney Fife-esque character in charge of an execution. Hopefully it won’t turn out as in The Green Mile. Great last line.

I enjoyed this reminder of The Green Mile. I wouldn’t want an assistant like that though.

Several of us have had similar themes – I like the dialogue in yours.

Oy.
I don’t think I want to be working with a Barney Fife – nor “given the treatment” by him either. If I can help it.
